SPOT Imagery

ResourceSat-1 images are captured with a combination of three multi-spectral and multi-resolution cameras for natural resources monitoring and management. These images can be used for a variety of applications:

  • Multiple crop discrimination with improved accuracy using SWIR along with VNIR data.
  • Crop condition assessment using VNIR and SWIR data.
  • Spectral un-mixing for extensibility of LISS-4/3 level information to AWiFS coverage.
  • Intra field variability in salinity and alkalinity.
  • Discrimination of soil wetness levels using SWIR data.
  • Delineation of more number of pure soil mapping units using LISS-4.
  • Discrimination of forest crown density and forest composition using LISS-4 data.
  • Improved discrimination of forest types using VNIR and SWIR data from LISS-3.
  • Improved ability to map forest fire scars as small as half hectare.
  • Snow cover area mapping with improved accuracy for large basins.
  • Smaller basin studies (around 10,000 square kms.).
  • Urban land use classification.
  • Improved infrastructure mapping with better delineation of roads/rail network, canal buildings etc.
  • Micro land user/cover change at field level.
  • Lineaments mapping and their classification with improved details.
  • Demarcation of rock type boundary with greater precision.
